Gary Barnes represents accounting firms and their insurers in the defense of malpractice claims and in providing risk management advice. Gary also represents professional liability and products liability insurers concerning claims handling practices and coverage issues and leads the firm's insurance claims and coverage practice. He has experience drafting insurance policies and endorsements. With more than 30 years of litigation experience, Gary now enjoys serving as a commercial arbitrator and a mediator, on panels of the American Arbitration Association, and as a court-appointed mediator for the U.S. District Court. Gary obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont in 1971 and graduated from Boston College Law School in 1974, where he was an editor of the law review. He is admitted to practice in Vermont and Massachusetts but frequently represents accountants, accounting firms, and insurers throughout the United States. Gary has provided counsel and appeared in courts, arbitrations, and mediations in 20 states and the District of Columbia. Gary now serves on the Board of Directors of ALPS RRG, a Montana-based lawyers' malpractice insurer. Gary was a founding member and Past President of the South Burlington Rotary Club. He is a member of the Chittenden County, Vermont, and American Bar Associations, and of the American Immigration Lawyer's Association. An instrument-rated commercial pilot, Gary has served as a Commissioner of the Burlington International Airport. |
