Jeff Johnson concentrates his practice in the areas of legislative and regulatory representation of insurance companies (both traditional and captive), banks, securities firms and individuals working in the financial services industry. Jeff's practice also involves a wide variety of corporate law issues for financial service companies, including corporate formations, ongoing annual representation, participation in shareholders' and directors' meetings and dissolutions. He has been involved on behalf of insurers in insurance solvency proceedings. In addition, his practice includes representation of clients in administrative law proceedings with the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration.

Jeff received a Bachelor of Arts in History from SUNY at Cortland in 1975 and graduated cum laude from Vermont Law School in 1982. Following law school, he served as a law clerk in the Federal District Court of Vermont for Magistrate Jerome J. Niedermeier. Jeff also served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Vermont from 1983-1985 and served successively with the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance and Securities as General Counsel (1986); Deputy Commissioner of Insurance (1987-1989); and Commissioner (1990-1992). He was Chair of the Northeast Zone of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and served as a member of the NAIC's Executive Committee during his tenure as Commissioner.

Jeff joined the firm as a Shareholder in 1992 and serves on its Executive Committee. He has been the Chair of the Insurance Committee and Treasurer of the Vermont Bar Association. During 1998 he served as interim General Counsel for National Life Insurance Company and supervised its conversion to a mutual insurance holding company system. From August of 2002 through December of 2005, he served as the General Counsel and Secretary for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont.
